Research of Lossless Image Compression Base on Level-scalability

Li Luwei,Zhou Shuoyan,Cai Yiyu

Strategic Study of CAE 2005, Volume 7, Issue 10,   Pages 33-37

Abstract:

A level-embedded lossless image compression method for continuous-tone still images is presented. Level (bit-plane) scalability is achieved by separating the image into two layers (the base layer and the residual layer) before compression. Excellent compression performance is obtained by exploiting both spatial and interlevel correlations. A comparison of the proposed scheme with a number of scalable and non-scalable lossless image compression algorithms indicates that the level-embedded compression incurs only a small penalty in compression efficiency over non-scalable lossless compression, while offering the significant benefit of level-scalability.

Amethod of shadowpuppet figure modeling and animation

Xiao-fang HUANG,Shou-qian SUN,Ke-jun ZHANG,Tian-ning XU,Jian-feng WU,Bin ZHU

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2015, Volume 16, Issue 5,   Pages 367-379 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1400351

Abstract: To promote the development of the intangible cultural heritage of the world, shadow play, many studies have focused on shadow puppet modeling and interaction. Most of the shadow puppet figures are still imaginary, spread by ancients, or carved and painted by shadow puppet artists, without consideration of real dimensions or the appearance of human bodies. This study proposes an algorithm to transform 3D human models to 2D puppet figures for shadow puppets, including automatic location of feature points, automatic segmentation of 3D models, automatic extraction of 2D contours, automatic clothes matching, and animation. Experiment proves that more realistic and attractive figures and animations of the shadow puppet can be generated in real time with this algorithm.

Atomistic understanding of interfacial processing mechanism of silicon in water environment: A ReaxFF

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2021, Volume 16, Issue 3,   Pages 570-579 doi: 10.1007/s11465-021-0642-6

Abstract: The interfacial wear between silicon and amorphous silica in water environment is critical in numerous applications. However, the understanding regarding the micro dynamic process is still unclear due to the limitations of apparatus. Herein, reactive force field simulations are utilized to study the interfacial process between silicon and amorphous silica in water environment, exploring the removal and damage mechanism caused by pressure, velocity, and humidity. Moreover, the reasons for high removal rate under high pressure and high velocity are elucidated from an atomic perspective. Simulation results show that the substrate is highly passivated under high humidity, and the passivation layer could alleviate the contact between the abrasive and the substrate, thus reducing the damage and wear. In addition to more Si-O-Si bridge bonds formed between the abrasive and the substrate, new removal pathways such as multibridge bonds and chain removal appear under high pressure, which cause higher removal rate and severer damage. At a higher velocity, the abrasive can induce extended tribochemical reactions and form more interfacial Si-O-Si bridge bonds, hence increasing removal rate. These results reveal the internal cause of the discrepancy in damage and removal rate under different conditions from an atomic level.
